A bit more about Bill

Bill grew up in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and is a proud alum of South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota School of Law. Bill is one of Cadwell’s elder statesmen, having served the firm and local bar admirably over the course of his 40+-year career.  Bill recently finished serving as the South Dakota State Bar President after being elected to the position in 2020 by his peers.

During his career, Bill has been a tireless advocate for his clients, having tried dozens of civil jury trials to verdict.

In addition to his sterling reputation as a litigator, Bill has also gained great respect among the bar for his civility, professionalism, ethics, and integrity in his dealings with the judiciary and other lawyers. Bill is also well regarded for his wisdom and common-sense approach to case strategy and management and is regularly sought out to mediate cases for others. These qualities have helped Bill shine among his peers in terms of generating efficient and effective results for his clients.

All of this is validated by Bill’s AV Martindale rating, recognition as a top litigator by SuperLawyer, and membership in the American Board of Trial Lawyers.

In addition to his legal career, Bill is also an active member in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Men’s Business Fraternity. Bill is grateful to share his life with his wife Mary Kay, son Charlie, daughter Meg, and her husband Colin Hammer.
